This week’s theme: exploring!

One of the coolest things about being a musician is getting the chance to travel and see some really cool places. I don’t think I would have expected Owen Sound to be one of those, but it is – and I love it specifically for the wonderful people of the Avalon Jazz Lounge. After making my debut there with the boys of Turbo Street Funk, I’m thrilled to be travelling up there with the Koopa Troop this weekend! Check us out from 9-11pm on Friday night, and help us celebrate Luigi’s birthday! If you can’t be there in person, the show will be live streamed too – watch here 🙂

And on Saturday, Spectrum Music presents our first concert of the season, Tracing One Warm Line. Included in the premieres that night is my piece “Fernao, Mendes? Minto!”, about the explorer Fernao Mendes Pinto, who (among other things) introduced firearms to the Japanese. See me talk about it:

The concert will be held at the Alliance Francaise at 24 Spadina Road – pre-concert chat at 7:30pm, music starts at 8pm. Facebook event here.

I’m so excited for this weekend – hope to see you at a show!
